A MIXTURE of sunny weather and half term has led to hundreds of children attending the Kidical Mass bike ride.

The family friendly bike rides happen monthly throughout the summer and at Christmas.

Today's (June 2) ride saw the children peddle from Cafe Viaduct to the Diglis Playing Fields.

Rob Collier, co organiser of Kidical Mass bike rides in Worcester which works in partnership with Bike Worcester, said: "This could be quite a big one because of the nice weather.

"It's the last day of half term and everyone is back in town and ready to go to school tomorrow.

"We try to run the rides monthly over summer and the premise is to make a space for kids to enjoy and travel by bike without any road danger.

"It fits in with what Bike Worcester does and we have lots of stickers and bubbles.

"We have had children as young as three and some of the parents of the really little ones grow in confidence as they can safely travel further."

Rides normally last around 30-45 minutes and can be up to four miles.

Mr Collier's son, Oscar said: "I like to play at the end and I also like to chat to my friends."

Alex and Gemma Fuller joined the mass this morning with sons Toby and Ted who are "nuts for bikes".

Mrs Fuller said: "Kidical Mass has a really good vibe and it encourages everyone to cycle, not just the hardcore cyclists.

"I'm not really into cycling myself but my husband loves it and I started after covid and now I'm addicted.

"We love to cycle, it doesn't matter about ability or skill, we do it as much as we can.

"Last week we all did the Blossom Trail in Evesham which is twelve and a half miles."

Kidical Mass routes change and today ended at the Diglis Big Lunch Community Picnic, where the children could relax and play games.

Mrs Fuller continued: "We also take part in Bike Bus to school.

"They are all kind of interlinked, Bike Bus, Bike Worcester and Kidical Mass, it's a really positive and uplifting community.

"When Toby was in reception, Bike Worcester was instrumental in helping him fit into school."
