IT was the end of an era as the couple running Commandery Coffee left - but the venue won't remain closed for long.

Pete and Gemma Round, from Worcester, have closed the doors to the popular cafe for the final time after treating customers to one last helping of coffee and their beloved toasties and homemade cakes.

The duo, who have taken charge of Commandery Coffee over the past seven years, announced on social media last month they had decided to spread their wings.

The coffee shop is located in the Commandery Museum.

Helen Large, who is marketing manager at the museum, told the Worcester News a new cafe operator was now in place.

That means people will be able to visit the venue when its doors re-open on Tuesday, July 2.

She added: “We’d like to say thank you very much to Gemma and Pete for their role at the coffee shop, they have made a brilliant success of it.

"We’re very sad to see them go and we’ll miss them very much as I’m sure a lot of their customers are."

Mr Round said he and his wife are now looking to take on a new challenge after over seven years running Commandery Coffee.

He added the couple had nothing but positive memories to look back on.

In a statement on social media, the couple said: “We have been overwhelmed by everyone’s support over the last week especially.

“Thank you everyone for your kind words, and generous tips for our staff.

“It means so much and we’ve tried to cherish our last few days.“
