People are being encouraged to make sure they are ready for the General Election with some simple checks.

Wychavon are reminding voters to allow time to register to vote, apply for postal or proxy votes, and verify possession of the appropriate photo ID, which is required for the first time in UK General Elections.

Voters will visit polling stations on Thursday, July 4 and must be registered by 11.59pm on Tuesday, June 18.

Applications for postal votes must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, June 19, while proxy vote applications - nominations for others to cast your vote - is set for 5pm on Wednesday, June 26.

The applications are particularly relevant for residents who have either just turned 18, recently relocated or changed their names.

An accepted form of voter ID, such as a UK passport or driving licence, must be presented to officials at a polling station before a vote can be cast.

The final date to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate for people without these forms of photo ID is by 5pm on Wednesday, June 26.

Information on accepted forms of ID can be found on www.wychavon.gov.uk/elections.

This election holds further significance as constituencies have been redrawn due to a review that took place in 2023.

Wychavon residents will be voting in new boundaries, with areas including Droitwich, Evesham, Dodderhill ward, Harvington, and Inkberrow wards forming part of the Redditch seat while Bredon, Bredon Hill, and West Worcestershire remains unchanged.

Incoming poll cards will provide details about residents' constituencies and polling stations.

Vic Allison, acting returning officer for the Droitwich and Evesham Parliamentary constituency, said: "We don’t want anyone to miss out on having their say on July 4.

"So please, take five minutes to make a postal or proxy vote application if you need to and check you have the right photo ID.

"If you need to register to vote, you can do so online in a matter of minutes.

"If you are not sure if you are registered to vote or not then please contact the team and check."
