Opportunities to volunteer at charities will be showcased at an upcoming event in Worcester.

The Worcester Volunteer Expo 2024, touted as one of the city's largest events of its kind, will host nearly 40 organisations at the Guildhall on Friday, June 14 between 10am and 2pm.

Attendees can meet representatives of fields ranging from dance and drama to administration, retail, conservation, sports and more.

Volunteering opportunities for those seeking to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh Award will also feature at the annual event.

Representatives of groups serving young people, families, and the elderly, along with those specialising in computer-related volunteer works, are also set to be attendance.

Lloyd Griffiths, corporate director for operations, homes and communities at Worcester City Council, said: "The Worcester Volunteer Expo is perfect for anyone who would like to make a difference to a cause that they feel strongly about.

"The event is an informal drop-in – there is no pressure to sign up on the day or to make any sort of commitment.

"I’d urge anyone interested in volunteering to attend and find out more."

Sally Ellison MBE, project co-ordinator for Worcester Community Action, said: "We are really looking forward to this year’s Volunteer Expo - we have so many different organisations attending, including community groups, the voluntary sector and the statutory sector, so there should be something of interest for everyone."

"Whether you'd like to know about volunteering in archaeology, the environment, emergency services, health and care, driving, working with young people, older people, those with disabilities - all can be found at the Expo."

She added: "Come along to the Guildhall on Friday, June 14 - admission is free and there will be free tea and coffee.

"We’re looking forward to welcoming you and helping you find the perfect volunteering opportunity."
