IT has been an exciting time for Worcester's foodies with news restaurants opening up throughout the city and just beyond.

This year has definitely seen some great additions to the food scene in the city with world cuisine taking a lead.

Here are some of the new restaurants that have opened in Worcester in 2024:

Origin

Foregate Street, Worcester

A new Afro-Caribbean restaurant joined the high street in February. 

Origin opened on February 9 on Foregate Street. 

The first customers through the door could try dishes from across Africa and the Caribbean, including goat curry, Ackee and saltfish and jollof rice.

Victoria Cullen, owner of Origin said: "I'm trying to bring different cultures together and reflect the diversity of Worcester.

"This is my second business and I have been in the catering business for 10 years.

"I'm excited and looking forward to bringing new dishes to Worcester which celebrate the diversity of the city."

The restaurant can serve around 80 people and the prices will range between around £8 and £12 for starters and between £16 and £35 for main courses. 

Pasta Di Piazza

Broad Street, Worcester

One of the newest eateries is an independent Italian restaurant which has opened in Broad Street.

Pasta Di Piazza opened on May 27. 

Owner Gaz Cani said he is confident that his new venture will succeed. 

When talking about the opening, Mr Cani said: "I am excited because I have been working on this since about a year ago and have visited Worcester quite often.

"I really like the area.

"It has been quite a good opening today and has gone pretty well, especially considering it has been the bank holiday. 

"You see people walking in happy to see us.

"I am very optimistic, and I know what I have, and it is good."

Hakkasan Express Kitchen 

Ronkswood Hill, Worcester

A new pan-Asian takeaway opened on Ronkswood Hill on May 21. 

Hakkasan Express Kitchen joined Ashleys and Little India as part of the Express Kitchen Group.

On Facebook, the team at Hakkasan Express Kitchen, said: "We take immense pride in presenting a culinary culture of Indo-Chinese.

"We are renowned for our exquisite Indian cuisine that fuses Indian spices. Building upon this legacy, we are excited to introduce the newest addition, an array of authentic dishes that pay homage to the diverse flavours of different subcontinents.

"Our passionate team brings their enthusiasm and expertise in diverse cuisine to create an unparalleled home dining experience."

Gurkha Country Bar and Grill

Smite, near Worcester

A new Gurkha Country Bar and Grill opened at The Pear Tree Inn in Smite on May 25. 

Manager Emanuel Popa said: "The head chef started as a chef in Delhi, India from the age of 18 and now has over 25 years experience.

"All dishes are made with love and he is passionate about using authentic natural ingredients such as raw spices instead of powder. He has also worked in 5 star establishments such as the Kanishka Hotel in New Delhi."
