NEIGHBOURS in a residential street in Worcester were woken up to flashing lights and sirens after a fire broke out.

Firefighters were called to Solitaire Avenue in St John's after a fire broke out on the first floor of a house with multiple occupancy (HMO).

An ambulance was also on the scene, but West Midlands Ambulance said that following a thorough search, no patients required medical treatment.

One eyewitness said they were awoken by the fire engines but were unsure of what had happened to start the fire.

A Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Three crews – two from Worcester and one from Malvern Fire Stations – were called at 1.06am on May 28 to a house fire with persons reported in Solitaire Avenue, Worcester.

"A fire on the first floor of a detached house, around 10m by 10m, was extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hosereel jet.

"A thermal imaging camera was also used. Ambulance and police were also in attendance.

"All occupants had left the building.

"The incident was marked as pending closure at 5.24am."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: "We were called to reports of a property fire on Solitaire Avenue in Dines Green, Worcester just after 1.10am.

"An ambulance was sent to the scene and, following a thorough search, there were no patients requiring medical treatment and we were stood down."

West Mercia Police said it did not attend the incident as they were not required.
