Age UK is trying to combat loneliness by setting up the 'Malvern Hike Against Loneliness.'
The initiative is a collaboration between Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire and Elite Adventures, offering a challenging hike across the scenic Malvern Hills.
Funds raised from the event, due to take place on March 22, 2025, will support the charity's efforts to reduce loneliness and enhance wellbeing among the local elderly population.
Hikers have two options: walk the hills from end to end or up the challenge by doubling back across the entire trail.
These routes span 9 and 18 miles respectively and provide spectacular views of the Malvern Ridge.
Registration options are flexible, allowing for individual or team sign-ups.
The event was announced during the national walking month, allowing fundraisers ample time to prepare for the challenge.
Age UK H&W's fundraising coordinator, Jodie Peek, spoke highly of the community's reception of the event:
She said: "It's truly inspiring to witness so many local businesses and individuals showing their support through participation.
"This challenge will not only provide a significant opportunity to generate the crucial funding required to support the invaluable work of our charity, but it also gives individuals the chance to undertake a remarkable personal challenge, while combatting isolation and loneliness across all generations.
"What are you waiting for? Sign up today!"
Participants will be fundraising to help the charity deliver essential services in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
Money raised will contribute to the organisation of activities and social clubs, significantly reducing isolation and loneliness among the elderly in these local areas.
For those interested in supporting Age UK H&W’s cause, further information and sign-up details are available on their website https://bit.ly/3wNNoWc.
Supporting the 'Hike Against Loneliness' represents not only a physical challenge but also a chance to contribute towards a more connected community, fighting loneliness one step at a time.
