RAMPAGING teens have been going on 14mph 'joy rides' around a Worcestershire town after causing £20,000 of damage at a golf club

'JOY riders' have been taking buggies at Gaudet Luce Golf Club and driving them around Droitwich, fed-up staff have claimed.

Golf club staff said three young people have been involved in the joy rides, which have caused over £20,000 in damage.

Staff say the incidents have taken place over the past 12 months and, in some instances, have seen the youngsters drive their buggies into ponds.

This has resulted in damage being done to the buggies and the surrounds that hold them, with many parts having to be replaced on the vehicles.

Golf club staff member Alec Fernihough told the Worcester News four incidents where youngsters took the buggies were spotted over the summer - and the youngsters even took a festive joy ride in the buggies on Christmas Eve.

He added: "Unfortunately there is a group of young people in the area that think it’s perfectly ok to remove the buggies.

"Those involved turned up on Saturday, they couldn’t take the buggies this time because we’ve spent money to stop them from doing it.

“At the end of the day, why people think they have the right to do whatever they want to is beyond me.

"The public has put forward names of who these people may be but ultimately it’s something the police will have to deal with."

Police received a report of the criminal damage at the Middle Lane golf club that happened on Saturday evening (May 18).

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The maximum speed a golf buggy can travel at is thought to be around 30mph.
