Developers are asking permission to remove asbestos tiles from the roof of a listed building in the city centre.
Planning approval was granted two years ago to convert International House in Pierpoint Street into a block of 15 apartments.
But the state of the roof has since deteriorated and it has been discovered that the building’s original slate tiles have at some point been replaced with asbestos-based fibre cement slates.
Developers want to replace these with non asbestos-based tiles, but require listed building consent from the city council in order to do so.
