A WOMAN has taken matters into her own hands by opening up a new pollution-free wild swimming facility to provide swimmers with a clean area to take a dip.
Jenny Thomas, who opened Broadfields Wild Swimming and Wellbeing, has been working to provide a swimming venue without the water pollution you may find in rivers and lakes.
The entrepreneur said she wanted to provide a clean, wild swimming space for everyone in safely monitored surroundings, which people would not need to travel miles for.
She officially opened the venue, which is nestled in the middle of the Worcestershire countryside in Cutnall Green, today (Saturday) and over 40 guests attended the opening.
"Today went far better than expected - we had so much excitement building on our Facebook page, and everyone was so positive about us opening," she said.
"In the back of my mind, I was fearful that when they come and see it, they may not like it.
"But everyone has completely loved it and the only feedback I've had is to put on more sessions.
"I think the state of our rivers is so sad, and it is such a shame that we do not have the freedom to swim in them anymore.
"There are some efforts to improve things for the rivers, and there is a lot more testing.
"But really, if you want to be safe and the water to be kept clean, you cannot go in the rivers anymore.
"It is great to be able to fill that gap for people so they can still reconnect with nature."
Broadfields Wild Swimming and Wellbeing's lakes are regularly tested to ensure clean water, and lifeguards are dotted around the water's edge to ensure swimmers' safety.
Also at today's opening was Juliet Wallace-Mason, an open water swimming coach who also represents team GB in Aquabike.
She said: "I am so passionate about getting people in safe new spaces to swim, and we know a lot of areas do not have good enough water quality.
"I really want to promote safe, clean bathing.
"I suppose because we can't swim where we need to swim (because of pollution), in the seas and the rivers, we have to find new locations."
She added that seeing so many smiley faces enjoying being in the water was lovely.
There are plans to potentially host sound baths and yoga sessions at Broadfields Wild Swimming and Wellbeing.
