THE Worcester roads which are notorious for speeding have people fearing someone could die and others sharing hair-raising stories of dangerous driving.
Drivers overtaking on 30mph streets and racing on dual tracks are just some of the fears shared about several 'dangerous' roads in the city.
Worcester News readers revealed which roads they think would benefit from a speed camera.
And ward councillors who cover several of the roads mentioned numerous times say residents often share their fears.
Three of the main offenders were the A4440, Tolladine Road and Ombersley Road.
Reader John Renshaw said: "Southern Link Road (A4440) from Whittington roundabout to Hams Way roundabout.
"Too many boy racers treat it like a race track."
Jan Hill commented: "Every section of the A4440 between Berkeley Way and Whittington."
Elena Round, city councillor for St Peter's, said: "The problem with the Southern Link Road is the recent improvements to make it a dual carriageway.
"It's a regular racetrack and it's fast and dangerous.
"I get regular complaints about the issue of speeding.
"Residents that live nearby cannot open their windows in summer because of the noise.
"It's horrific, I would like to see speed reduction measures put in place."
Resident Rachael Harris said Tolladine Road is plagued by speeding.
"Surprised someone hasn't been seriously hurt or worse on the crossing just after the junction to Kenwood Avenue.
"Cars speed along that part of the road and don't stop when people are waiting to cross."
Jill Desayrah, councillor for Warndon and Elbury Park, said: "Tolladine Road is notorious for speeding.
"Myself and colleagues are petitioning for a light-controlled crossing.
"Tetbury Drive is also bad for speeding as people use it as a cut-through from Cotswold Way to Windermere Drive.
"I have been given approval for a Speedwatch team but I have not got enough volunteers to run it yet."
Fellow city councillor Ed Kimberley said: "It's a busy road, the traffic often moves much too quickly, and there is a clear and pressing need for a pelican crossing between Avon Road and Holly Mount, to serve the schoolchildren who walk across Tolladine every day."
Daniel Turner suggested Ombersley Road saying: "I always get overtaken at 5.30am.
"I always stick to 30mph. One day the paper boy will get knocked over."
Karen Lawrance, councillor for Claines, said: "I have lived around the corner for the past 35 years and people speed past on quite a frequent basis.
"Trying to turn onto the road can be quite hair-raising.
"A lot of complaints about speeding come up but it's not easy to deal with.
"I don't know that last time we had a speed trap on Ombersley Road, but it's easily done."
A spokesperson for the West Mercia Police Road Safety Team said: "Speed cameras are located in areas where there is a history of fatal or serious collisions and a proven speeding issue or in areas where there is a high level of community concern about speeding and a proven speeding issue."
