The outgoing Mayor of Worcester has donated thousands of pounds to his chosen charity.

Mayor Louis Stephen presented Age UK Worcester, Malvern Hills and Hereford Localities with a check of £7,092.

A sum of £7,399.47 was raised over the year while Councillor Stephen was in office, which included donations sent directly to the organisation via a QR code.

Various fundraising events were held to bolster the funds, including a Charity Fashion Show which saw students customising the outfits.

Further support was extended from the Elgar Chorale of Worcester, a popular choir who performed at a concert arranged by the Mayor's office.

During the festive season, a 'Christmas Bash with Isy and Louis' was put on for the older members of the community, particularly those who were alone or isolated.

The outgoing Mayor said: "It's been a lot of fun supporting Age UK.

"The highlight for me was the Mayor's Charity Fashion Show.

"We raised lots of money for a great cause and gave a fantastic opportunity to highlight the amazing creative skills of Worcester's young people."

Several other events, such as the Worcester Civic Society lecture, titled 'Our Canal Heritage' and the Mayor's Charity Spring concert, featuring a performance from Worcester Concert Brass added to the fundraising efforts.

Age UK Worcester, Malvern Hills and Hereford Localities aim to provide top-quality, expert support for little or no cost.

The charity's services range from befriending and bereavement support to help at home and day trips.

It also provides advice on matters relating to health, wellbeing, and finance, and organises social activities and volunteer opportunities.

The new Mayor, Councillor Mel Allcott, was elected during an Annual Council meeting on Tuesday night, with her chosen charity to support being Perdiswell Young Peoples Leisure Club.
