Penarth Cricket Club got their season off to a winning start after rain called off the planned opening fixture.

The team had an exceptional victory at Port Talbot Town, marking their first Premier League action of the new 2024 campaign.

Will Skone (44) and Tashaffi Shams (43), who opened the game for Penarth, secured an 89-run partnership.

New signing Sai Kumani chalked up a swift 72, guiding his team to finish at 205 with only two balls left of their 50 overs.

Wickets were taken by Kumani, Skone, Mark Thomas, Greg Cross, and Isaac Foster.

The final four wickets fell for just 13 runs, ending the game 32 runs in Penarth’s favour.

Meanwhile, in the Welsh Cup tie, a sudden thunderstorm ended the day with Penarth in a good position at 163 for 5.

The match will continue next week.

Penarth's newly promoted second team made a winning start overcoming Vale at the Athletic Club.

It wasn't a smooth sail as the team were down to 23 for 4.

However, an undefeated 38 from Captain Nitin Mathias and 21 from Steven Fuller turned the game around.

But Penarth's third team weren't as lucky, suffering a loss against Newport Fugitives.

Despite Nathan Piddock's 75 runs and Richard Skone's three wickets, it just wasn't their day.

Finally, the club’s new fifth team celebrated a winning start in division 13 at Aberdare, winning by five runs.

Additionally, the Under 15s triumphed in their Welsh Cup match, closing the day on a high note.
