Army veterans have the chance to take on a unique training opportunity to restore a Droitwich farmhouse to its former glory.

As part of the Willow Court Farmhouse restoration project, Wychavon District Council is offering two full-time trainee carpenter apprentice posts to ex-service personnel.

This scheme is in line with Wychavon District Council's efforts to provide additional support to the Armed Forces Covenant.

The trainee positions are open to working-age veterans living within commuting distance of Droitwich Spa with an interest in carpentry or construction.

The selected trainees will work on the project, which is set to last roughly 80 weeks, with specialist heritage and conservation contractor Messenger.

They will take part in a full-time carpentry training program and learn traditional and heritage building practices.

The project, which is soon to enter its next phase, aims to preserve the Grade II Willow Court Farmhouse and convert it into six affordable flats.

Support from Wychavon and the National Lottery Heritage Fund (thanks to National Lottery players) has funded the endeavour.

Worcestershire Building Preservation Trust, in partnership with Wychavon and Platform Housing Group, oversees the site.

Cllr Rob Adams, armed forces champion on the council, said: "I’m delighted we’re able to offer this unique opportunity to our Armed Forces veterans to be involved in a fascinating heritage project that is going to make a real difference to our communities once finished.

"This is another example of the way the covenant has helped us to support our ex-servicemen and women, and the wider Armed Forces community."

Prospective candidates can reach out to Patrick.Connelly@wychavon.gov.uk for a trainee job description and details about the application process.

The application deadline is Friday, June 14.
