Labour say a minority administration is possible after falling one short of claiming an overall majority in the Guildhall.
Lynn Denham, who was a joint leader of the city council alongside the Green Party’s Marjory Bisset last year, wasn’t ruling anything out after today’s (May 3) election count.
A good showing for Labour left them with 17 seats on Worcester City Council. The Greens have 12, the Liberal Democrats five and the Conservatives just one.
Labour could choose to form an alliance with the Lib Dems or the Greens - either would give them enough seats to form an overall majority, which makes it easier to win votes in council meetings.
Cllr Denham said: “A minority administration is possible. We’ve got time to think about it, to look at how the committee system works and to think about what’s best for Worcester.
“It’s absolutely clear people do not want a Conservative administration do they?
“This is a genuinely live democracy in Worcester and it always has been. We’ve had lots of fascinating conversations with people around the city.”
Asked if a coalition is possible, Cllr Denham said: “It’s possible, possible, yeah,” adding: “Roll on the General Election.”
