TRIBUTES have been flooding in for a community stalwart who was "part of the bricks and mortar" of a beloved venue.
Barbara Goode, known to many as 'Auntie Barb,' was a dedicated volunteer at The Civic in Stourport and was at the forefront of a successful campaign to save the venue 13 years ago.
Barbara has been remembered as part of the "spirit" of the venue by colleagues. She died on Thursday, April 25, at the age of 87.
John Caldwell, business manager at The Civic, said: "Barbara was one of the original people involved in the creation of The Civic, being present from the very first meeting, through to the creation of the charity, and beyond into the management of the venue.
"Barb was a member of our management committee for a number of years, and led the Housekeeping Team, Front of House Team, and formed the ENCORE Musical group.
"Her commitment to The Civic was recognised when she was made a life member, as part of the initial cohort, at our AGM in October 2023.
"She was of course, more than that to a number of us at The Civic, she was part of the Family.
"She was full of advice, experience, and of course love - mixed with a beautiful sense of humour and a gentle nature that was simply irresistible.
"We wish to extend our sympathy and love to Barbara’s family and Trevor.
Hall manager Caroline Caldwell added: “She was part of the brick and mortar. She was part of the spirit of the Civic and she was more than just a volunteer".
“She was there at the forefront of it all, with John and a few others pushing for us to save the building.
"Her passion was second to none".
