THERE will be a stop-off in Worcester for a charity manager embarking on a huge solo cycle challenge spanning over 1,000 miles.
Steve Scarsbrook, charity manager at Spencer Contact, is travelling from Land's End to John O'Groats, with a pit stop in Worcester, and aims to raise funds for families in crisis.
Mr Scarsbrook is hoping to raise an impressive £10,000 in charitable donations in a journey planned to end on May 11.
His efforts are in celebration of the charity's 25-year anniversary.
Spencer Contact, based in Northamptonshire, provides pre-loved furniture, household items and clothing to families who have fallen on hard times.
Mr Scarsbrook said: "This is by far the biggest fundraiser we have ever organised in our whole 25-year history.
"And we have an ambitious £10,000 fundraising target to hit, which is huge for a small charity like ours."
His efforts have received a wave of support, with fundraising to date amounting to more than £1,800.
Businesses such as Steele & Bray, Blinds Corner, JRP Build, Klever Kitchen Co and even The Mayor of Northampton are backing the cause.
Pitching in on her husband's heroic ride, his wife Esther said: "We have been overwhelmed by the support so far, but we have a long way to go to reach our target."
She also said: "Steve will be doing all the hard work using pedal power, but I will be there supporting him.
"It is a challenge of a lifetime for a really worthwhile cause."
Money accrued through Mr Scarsbrook's efforts goes straight into aiding families who are coping with distressing circumstances.
Mr Scarsbrook said: "Any money we raise will go directly back to supporting families in some of the saddest situations imaginable, some with literally nothing."
His complicated route will meander through B roads, canal paths, and unused railway lines.
Supporters are encouraged to cheer him on as he traverses from the southwest to the northeast.
