A Worcestershire social worker has received a national award for her work supporting patients with their mental health.

Lucy Wilkin, an advanced social work practitioner for Worcestershire County Council's Adult Mental Health Team, has been recognised in the British Association of Social Workers (BASW)'s Amazing Social Workers campaign.

Ms Wilkin, who balances frontline duties with team management responsibilities, stood out for her passion and commitment to supporting residents with their mental health.

She said: “I was really surprised to be recognised by the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) for the work that I do alongside our mental health colleagues.

"I really enjoy the work that I do with our residents to ensure they receive the support they need, and I continue to feel strongly about the benefit of social work in supporting those with complex mental health difficulties."

The campaign celebrates the work carried out across the UK's social work landscape.

Its goal is to highlight both the accomplishments of professionals in the sector and the importance of social work.

Kerry McCrossan, assistant director for Adult Social Care for the council, said: " “It’s wonderful for Lucy to have been recognised by the British Association of Social Workers for the fantastic work that she does day in and day out, working in partnership with people to support their mental health needs and recovery."

This year, the campaign honoured 148 people and teams, embracing grassroots workers, educators, newly qualified social workers, students, and various management levels.

The recognitions were shared on the BASW's social media channels and official website throughout late March and early April, forming part of the organisation's festivities for World Social Work Day in March.
