A Worcester couple are fronting a volunteering campaign.
Inspiring duo, Chris and Ian Fearn, are the faces of a new recruitment drive by charity, Royal Voluntary Service.
The call has gone out for more than 600 individuals from all corners of Britain, to offer their time to assist in flexible yet rewarding initiatives.
The husband and wife team, with a combined total of more than 37 years of service at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, have stuck with their volunteering roles despite the upheavals of relocations, health crises including cancer diagnoses, and the impact of the pandemic.
Chris holds a dual role at the charity's hospital shop and café, where her duties range from serving hot drinks and healthy snacks to customers, to providing a comforting presence for those needing a chat.
Ian takes charge of the charity’s shop at the same hospital, taking on tasks such as managing deliveries, restocking shelves and generally ensuring the smooth running of operations. This retail work feeds the charity's fund to support the NHS.
For the recruitment campaign, the couple are sharing their own experiences to inspire more individuals across Britain to join them in making a difference.
Chris Fearn said: “The café is in the hospital’s oncology unit, so you get to know the patients, and they are such wonderful people."
“I love knowing I’ve made a difference."
As Ian has completed his cancer treatment, she added: “it’s even more rewarding now to play my part and serve the hospital staff that come into the café.”
Ian Fearn said: “I haven’t looked back since and now I do two days every week.”
He added: "It's a way for me to give back."
Michelle Gittings, service manager for Royal Voluntary Service said: “We are so proud of Chris and Ian, and all Royal Voluntary Service volunteers who do amazing things to make our communities better places."
Celebrities including Gaby Roslin, Kelvin Fletcher, Jodie Kidd, Joey Essex and Faye Winter are also showing their support for the cause.
Those encouraged to give their time can visit the Royal Voluntary Service's website to find opportunities near them.
