Harriett Baldwin MP has voiced her optimism about a project enhancing the county's rail links.

The initiative aims to double two stretches of the Cotswold Line between Oxford and Worcester, to allow more and faster services to and from London and the South East.

Joining forces with Witney MP Robert Courts, Mrs Baldwin recently met transport minister Huw Merriman to present the proposals.

Representatives from Oxfordshire and Worcestershire County Council also attended, putting forward the case for a project revival, which was slowed by the pandemic.

The West Worcestershire MP has been advocating for track doubling between Worcester and Pershore for over a decade, arguing it would enable faster journeys and additional services.

Mrs Baldwin said: "We had a very positive meeting with the minister and I am hopeful that the right people are now talking to each other in the Department and Network Rail to find a way to progress this plan.

"I am confident that the minister has picked up on the local enthusiasm for this important project."
