THERE may not have been much 'treasure' - but what lurks beneath Worcester's canal was revealed after a boat became stuck.

Gregory's Mill top lock and bottom lock were both emptied to help free the stuck canal boat.

After the water was drained away, it uncovered hidden trinkets which were lurking partially submerged in the mud.

There were the inevitable bikes and an assortment of items related to cycling - tyres, reflectors and such like.

There was also a child's scooter which had somehow ended up in the Worcester and Birmingham Canal.

Other items were harder to identify - twisted bits of metal, scraps of old pipe and bits of wood.

The first reports of a canal boat stuck at Gregory's Mill came in on Friday (March 22).

The boat was stuck at the top lock after allegedly getting its front baseplate stuck in the side wall.

According to Canal and River Trust Engineer on site on Tuesday morning, the boat was not sitting level in the water as it passed through the lock causing it to get caught.

It was removed later the same day.
