A POPULAR cafe running for 40 years has gained a new lease of life now it has been taken over by new owners, a married couple who share the same dream.
Greedypig Cafe, now open open at Unit F1C of the Blackpole East trading estate in Blackpole in Worcester, is 'a new start' for Martyn Dorr, 55, and wife Teresa Dorr, 52.
The couple, married for 24 years, took on the cafe, formerly Top Nosh, last Christmas and have already left their own personal touch on the place, including the distinctive logo.
Their proximity to the large yellow Stock N Lock Self Storage provides a helpful beacon-like landmark for customers to find them.
The cafe offers breakfast and lunch, meals and snacks (hot and cold) and an eat in and takeaway service.
The menu includes hot sandwiches (bacon, sausage, egg, black pudding, chips etc), cold sandwiches (cheese and pickle, tuna mayo etc) and full breakfasts, jacket potatoes, omelettes and salads. Teas, coffees, hot chocolates and cold drinks also feature.
Mr Dorr, a former engineer, said: "There are people coming in who have known the cafe for 40 years under different ownership. It was closed for around six months before we took it on. We have brought it back to life.
"The response has been really good. We have had old customers back and have welcomed new customers. They are glad the place is back open. Workers on the estate have certainly welcomed us.
"They have been great. They have really been welcoming. We have even had customers bringing their mums in for breakfast. We also have plenty of free parking. There's plenty of healthy options. We're not just a bacon and egg place. We're far more than that."
So far the couple has invested in an extractor system to make it as pleasant as possible to sit inside the cafe. They want to make future customers aware they are there and attract passing trade from the M5 and A449 and people using narrowboats on the nearby canal.

They hope to have tables outside in the summer.
The name Greedypig was chosen because it was catchy but the couple say there are plenty of healthy options on the menu including a salad bar with vegetarian meals available.
Mrs Dorr, a former hairdresser, said all the food is homemade using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including a fresh delivery of bread every morning.
The couple, a mum and dad of three adult children, also employ two members of staff.
Mrs Dorr said she enjoyed cooking and had 'a passion for food'. "It's all straightforward, home-cooked food," she said.
The cafe is open Monday to Friday, 7am to 2pm, and Saturday between 7am and 11.30am.
