A RURAL school has linked up with a town's nursing home for a community connection.
Sytchampton Endowed Primary School, near Stourport, has been working with Droitwich's Dorset House over the last year.
School pupils have most recently been creating Easter cards (pictured above) to enter a competition which will be judged by the nursing home's residents with a winner picked from each class.
Every class at Sytchampton has two wellbeing champions.
Early years teaching assistant Natalie Hothi, the school's wellbeing champion, said: "Their job is to support their friends, spread happiness throughout the school, organise events and brighten up the day for the residents at Dorset House.
"We take a group of children to visit every half-term and take part in craft activities or reading.
"During our visits the children do craft activities with the residents, read to them, plant sunflowers and enjoy board games.
"The residents love receiving letters from our children and it really puts a smile on their faces.
"When Lisa (activities co-ordinator) at Dorset House asked me if the children would like to do an Easter card competition and the residents will judge it, I thought this was an amazing opportunity for the children.
"These inter-generational links are so important and beneficial for both parties.
"If the children can do these small acts of kindness that’s a wonderful gift."
Throughout the year the school organises wellbeing days to focus on mindfulness, yoga, meditation, positive thinking, relaxation, managing anxiety and expressing themselves by doing what they love.
The nursing home on Blackfriars Avenue is run by Rotherwood Healthcare.
