THE smell of burning had closed part of the city's High Street.
Firefighters and police closed a section of Worcester High Street today (Saturday) at 2pm after reports of a burning smell in Poundland.
A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "An automatic fire alarm had been set off.
"There was a suspected smell of burning and fire crews attended.
"A full investigation had been completed, and nothing was found."
One eyewitness walking past the scene said two fire trucks came down Pump Street.
"Poundland had alarms going off and rushing to get people out of the store," he said.
"Then two fire trucks turned up."
Poundland remains closed.
