There will be disruption for motorists with multi-way temporary traffic lights set to go in on a main road into Worcester for three weeks.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the A38 Bath Road while Cadent continues its work to make gas mains safe in the area.

Work will start on Monday, April 8 and is expected to take three weeks - reaching completion by Saturday, April 27.

The firm said multi-way traffic lights will go in on Bath Road, between the junctions of Bunns Lane and Elm Green Close, mainly focussed on the junctions of Norton Road and Barneshall Avenue.

It has apologised to motorists for the disruption, but said work is needed to make the gas supply safe in the area.

A spokesperson for Cadent said: "Traffic management will be required in order for our teams to complete their work safely and to protect members of the public for the duration of the scheme.

"Please leave additional time for your journeys or try to find alternative routes.

"We appreciate this is likely to cause you some inconvenience, for which we apologise.

"However, this is important work to ensure the safe supply of gas to the area.

"We will make every effort to complete the work as efficiently as possible."

St Peter’s parish councillor John Renshaw said: "The work has been progressing in stages over quite a long period of time.

"They're doing a few side streets at a time and working their way up Bath Road, which is a very busy road at certain times of the day.

"It's going to boil down to how well they manage the traffic while they are working on the road.

"Inevitably work will cause a bit of inconvenience, particularly for residents who have lost gas supply during the day.

"But if systems have to be modernised it's something we have to put up with."
