A WORCESTER school has today been recognised as one of the best in the UK for rowing in 2024.

King’s Worcester has been named in the top eight schools in the country for rowing by The Good Schools Guide.

King's is ranked alongside some of the UK’s long-established and famous rowing schools including St Edward’s Oxford, Shiplake College, Radley College and St Paul’s School.

The Good Schools Guide is the UK’s number one impartial guide to schools, offering parents and guardians worldwide unbiased and well-informed insight into well over 1,300 schools in the UK. This report into the best rowing schools is the first such review they have produced.

The Guide also praises the School’s enviable facilities: "The eye-catching design of the School’s boathouse stands out majestically over the River Severn, with access to a 12km loop of the river for training and competition.

"Even on the miserable, blustery day we visited, the views were striking, though wind and rain had forced rowers to train inside, albeit on hi-tech rowing machines."

Headmaster, Gareth Doodes commented: "This is an impressive achievement for King’s, and our King’s Boat Club community in particular.

"We are so very fortunate to have such a dedicated and passionate team of rowing coaches, who have supported and inspired so many young pupils in the past and continue to do so today."

Head of Rowing, Jim Chalmers added: "We are delighted by such wonderful recognition of the rowing programme and Boat Club community, a result of the ongoing extraordinary work of the staff and pupils.

"It is always a great sense of pride that our alumni maintain their connections with the community and lifelong involvement in rowing and other sports. So many of them go on to row at university and clubs, with recent Henley Medalists, GB representatives and Atlantic rowers all having started their rowing journey at King’s."

The announcement comes hot on the heels of the School’s recent inclusion in the Top 30 schools in the UK for sport.
