A recent Worcester building project has been named as a finalist for a regional award given to the most impressive in the West Midlands.

The Elgar Unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital is a contender for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards, West Midlands 2024.

The unit, which was developed as a ward to support mental health provision, has been shortlisted in both the Refurbishment/Revitalisation Project and Public Sector Project categories.

The scheme involved the redevelopment of an existing ward and the creation of a new £11 million facility boasting private, ensuite rooms, ending shared dormitory style accommodation.

The RICS Awards spotlight the most innovative and impactful initiatives and developments across land, real estate construction, and infrastructure.

The awards acknowledge exceptional achievement, teamwork, and companies contributing to their respective fields.

The chair of the awards judging panel, Bryony Siggs, said: "It is inspiring to see such inspirational projects in the West Midlands shortlisted for these awards.

"It is a true testament to the dedication of surveying professionals despite challenging times in recent years.

"I wish all of the projects the best of luck."

Businesses are still able to enter six more categories until Friday, April 26.

Included in these is the newly introduced ‘Ambassador of the Year Award’.
