I WONDER if any of your other readers who live in St John’s are wondering exactly what is going on at the former Komatsu site (Bromyard Road)?
For some weeks there have been ‘dog units’ stationed inside the old part of the factory opposite the cemetery.
I realise that there was an unfortunate incident last year when some travellers entered and left a lot of rubbish upon their departure – but the current situation would seem to be somewhat excessive bearing in mind that there are also concrete barriers, locks and security cameras on the gate.
This is in addition to the guard and barriers at the entrance to the site.
The dogs in question are extremely vocal as they peruse the site (in the daytime and at night) and are also very aggressive.
I have walked past the gate on a couple of occasions when a dog and handler are outside the gates and this is very intimidating, I can assure you, when the dog barks and lunges towards passers-by and particularly other dogs.
It is not helped by the fact that the handler was messing around with a mobile phone and not paying attention to the dog.
I wonder what exactly they are guarding? I also wonder why there is any need to have such aggressive dogs so close to a well-used thoroughfare.
Not only are there many dog walkers and pedestrians, there are copious children who cut through the Meco Alley to and from school.
Please be aware when you are passing these dogs – especially if you have your own dog with you.
