Worcester News readers have been making their views known after motoring experts called for lessons on motorway driving to become mandatory.

Currently, learner drivers are not obligated to practice motorway driving during their lessons or official tests, a regulation that LeaseCar.uk challenges.

LeaseCar.uk is calling for each new driver to have mandatory motorway driving lessons before obtaining their pass certificate.

This legislation aims to lower accident rates and improve new drivers' skills.

Without motorway training ahead of getting their driving license, many novice drivers find themselves on motorways for the first time after passing their tests..

The company asserts that not knowing motorway rules like handling slip roads and stricter lane discipline, creates hazardous situations.

Motoring expert Tim Alcock commented that motorway driving can be a daunting experience, especially for those who have never driven on such roads before.

As a result he advocates mandatory motorway lessons to build confidence and experience in new drivers, preparing them for post-test on-road challenges.

Readers shared a range of opinions on Facebook about the proposed regulation change.

Scott George said: "Experts can say what they like, but it's impossible to implement this on a driving test.

"Not all test centres in the UK have a motorway nearby so it's not going to happen."

James Prosser mirrored this sentiment, commenting: "Impossible to enact, what about places where it’s miles and miles from a motorway?

"There are plenty of test centres that are no where near dual carriageways as well."

Some readers, like Shannon Southwick, expressed personal hesitations about motorway driving.

She said: "I’ve passed almost 3 years this year, and I've never driven on a motorway and never want to."

Shan Mullinger commented: "I think a motorway lesson should be offered after the person has passed their test.

"I feel like the thought of driving on the motorway for some people is worse than actually doing it.

"I made sure to go on there within the first few weeks of getting my license, and once it was over and done with I didn’t mind driving on it at all, and have been for the past 7 years."
