A CITY centre cafe has announced it is set to undergo a major transformation into a restaurant in the coming months

Rebaz Tahir, the owner of Black and White cafe, in The Foregate, Worcester, says he is excited for the cafe to switch to a Mezze restaurant which will honour his heritage.

"For the past seven years of Black and White it has been a cafe and now I want to go back to the roots of where I come from," he said.

"Black and White has been going seven years - it is going really well.

"Our good friends tried our cuisine and suggested selling the food - becoming a restaurant was something that came into our minds.

"It is going to give a taste of Middle Eastern cuisine to Worcester customers.

"I don't like to label it one area of the  Middle East - there will be traditional dishes from Lebanon, Turkey, all over the Middle East.

"There will be a lot of variety. There will be Mezze style tapas, grilled fish like sea bass, kebabs and also our signature dish of slow-cooked lamb.

"We can't wait."

The 43-year-old, who moved to England 23 years ago, said a recent taste-testing event had gone well and they were planning to begin the change by having a Middle Eastern Pop Up restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays beginning Friday, March 29 - which will open alongside the cafe.

Mr Tahir said the cafe's hours meant they currently close at 5pm on Friday and Saturdays - but during this period they will open later.

The full conversion, when the cafe completely switches to the restaurant under the new name of Black and White Mezza and Grill, is then planned to happen in May.

Mr Tahir added the March 29 first night was already fully booked but they are taking bookings for March 30 which can be done on the website blackandwhit3.co.uk.
