The Mayor of Worcester has paid a visit to secondary school pupils aspiring to become fashion designers of the future.

Councillor Louis Stephen visited Nunnery Wood High School to see the pupils preparing for a charity fashion on Thursday, March 14 at the Guildhall.

The students have been transforming clothes donated from Age UK shops with new designs, 3D flowers, and more.

On the night of the show, the clothes will be modelled by year 10 dance students.

Proceeds will support Age UK Worcester & Malvern Hills via the Mayor’s charity appeal.

During his visit, Cllr Stephen said: "I’m really encouraged by the fantastic work I’ve seen today, I can see some real skills developing.

"The pupils are working extremely hard and it’s great to see the quality of what they’ve done to re-use these clothes and to help raise money."

Nunnery Wood’s headteacher, Stephen Powell, guided the Mayor around the art department on his visit.

Mr Powell said: "A visit from the Mayor is educational for the pupils because it’s an opportunity to talk about his role and the role of Worcester City Council."

Year nine pupil Natasha Lee, who is preparing a denim jacket for auction on the night of the event.

She said: "Everyone’s been excited that the Mayor is visiting, and I’m really pleased that the clothes we’re making are going to be seen on the catwalk and will raise money for a good cause."

Students at HoW College and Christopher Whitehead Language College are also contributing to the event, both by creating and modelling clothes to be auctioned off that evening.

The night will also feature live music and a two-course meal.

Looking forward to the event, the Cllr Stephen added: "It’s going to be a great event because we will be supporting the schools and they are going to be supporting us.

"It’s very much a way of working with the community to create a really enjoyable social event and also raise money for a very good cause."
