AN outdoor art exhibit which formed part of the Light Night event this week was hit by vandals.

Evanescent in Cornmarket was one of the eye-catching exhibitions which gave visitors the chance to wander through large-scale spheres designed by Atelier Sisu to "capture the magic of bubbles".

There were queues to walk through the exhibit but, at the end of the first night, vandals damaged three of the bubbles by deflating them.

That section was not used on the second night but the exhibit was able to stay open.

Laura Worsfold, chief executive of organiser Severn Arts, said: "Unfortunately we had an incident, some vandalism at 11pm on the first night.

"Security guards detained them (the vandals) and the police were called and attended. Police are now investigating.

"It didn't detract from the exhibition, people were still able to walk through."

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the Cornmarket in New Street, Worcester, after reports of anti-social behaviour.

"Three suspects have been identified and officers are working with the organisation (Severn Arts).

"Enquiries are ongoing.”
