A PETITION for a pelican crossing where a woman was knocked down and seriously hurt has already garnered nearly 140 signatures as comments reveal the scale of public anger.
The woman in her 40s was knocked down at the zebra crossing in Windermere Drive in Blackpole, Worcester on Wednesday, February 7.
She remains in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with life-threatening injuries following the incident which has so far led to no arrests or charges being brought.
The incident happened around 5.20pm on Wednesday, February 7, when the beige Nissan Figaro was travelling from Blackpole towards Sainsbury's on Windermere Drive and collided with a woman crossing the road.
So far 139 people have signed the petition to introduce a pelican crossing after Cllr Jill Desayrah previously raised concerns that drivers were not stopping.
Testimonials, recorded as part of the petition, reveal the scale of anger and concern about the crossing.
One resident described the incident as 'shockingly unsurprising'. Another said: "This crossing is a nightmare, I've witnessed lots of near misses. Lots of school kids cross here including my kids."
One person who signed the petition said: "A light-controlled crossing is a must on Windermere Drive."
One comment read: "This crossing is not properly lit and is so dangerous, especially in the roadside coming out of Sainsbury's. This needs to be changed to a pelican crossing to make drivers slow down on approach."

A further comment read: "The speed cars go down this road is awful, this is a high pedestrian area. I cannot understand why the sleeping policemen have stopped along this stretch of road while the crossing itself is poorly marked and poorly lit up. It can be very difficult to spot people walking along the railing side of Sainsbury's, especially in dark clothing."
Jill Desayrah, the Warndon city councillor, began calling for a pelican crossing last February.
She said: “I have spoken to far too many residents who have had near misses on that crossing and fear using it.
"This petition has for the first time released all these stories. We want to thank everyone who has taken the trouble to sign the petition and we hope many more will take this opportunity to raise their concerns this way.
"We will present the petition to County Hall. Hopefully then the crossing will get the enhanced safety measures it needs. “
