HMRC has warned people to be wary of tax refund offers after receiving over 200,000 scam referrals over the last 12 months.
Fraudsters are said to target self assessment customers, with over 11.5 million people submitted a tax return by last month's deadline.
Among the 207,800 referrals, over 79,000 offered bogus tax rebates.
Customers are urged to report suspicious communication to HMRC to help fight these scams.
Kelly Paterson, HMRC’s chief security officer, said: "With the deadline for tax returns behind us, criminals will now try to trick people with fake offers of tax rebates."
