Choristers of Worcester Cathedral got their running shoes out as they participated in the annual pancake race.

The cherished event, titled the 'Flipping Fantastic Annual Pancake Race', is held in the Cathedral's cloisters, with pupils from King’s St Alban’s Prep School and the King’s School Worcester participating.

The event marks the start of Lent and celebrates Shrove Tuesday.

The choristers split into two teams: Decani, overseen by assistant director of music, Nicolas Freestone, and Cantoris, led by Canon John Paul Hoskins.

Dressed in cassocks, they had to run through a challenging course laden with obstacles and tasks to complete.

They had tasks like juggling a bean bag on their heads, passing a hoop over their body, holding a pan topped with a pancake and flipping it at every corner of the cloister.

It was the Cantoris team that claimed victory, earning the title of this year's champions.

The choristers, an assembly of talented boys and girls aged between seven to 10, are the oldest part of King’s Worcester’s history.

Nick Hawker, the headmaster of King’s St Alban’s, who watched the race from the sidelines, said: "It was a pleasure to support both our Choristers and Worcester Cathedral for this much-loved tradition.

"Watching the Choristers work together, laugh and giggle in each other’s company was delightful."
