Worcestershire flooding: Levels peak but warning remain in place

The River Severn burst its banks and covered ground in scenes similar to a month ago. 

On Sunday afternoon the Environment Agency still had a number of flood warnings - meaning flooding is expected - at various locations across the county including: 

• River Avon at Birlingham and Eckington
• River Avon at Evesham
• River Avon at Wyre Piddle
• River Avon at Strensham and Bredon
• River Severn at Court Meadow, Kempsey and Callow End

• River Severn at Hanley Road, Upton upon Severn
• River Severn at Severn Ham, Tewkesbury

Flood alerts, which mean flooding is possible, were in operation at

• Kempsey Village

• River Severn in Worcestershire

• River Avon in Worcestershire
• River Evenlode from Moreton in Marsh to Cassington (in the Cotswolds)

The Environment Agency's warning for Diglis, Worcester, said: "River levels remain high as a result of recent heavy rainfall. Consequently, the risk of flooding remains. We expect flooding to affect properties at Quay Street, South Quay, Diglis Avenue and Hood Street.

"River Levels at the Diglis river gauge peaked at 4.72m on Saturday morning - however still remain above flood risk threshold."

"We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days. No further significant rain is currently forecast over the next few days but we are closely monitoring the situation."

The Environment Agency says its is continuing to "closely monitor the situation".

In Worcester the River Severn once again burst its banks around South Quay, Sabrina Bridge and onto Pitchcroft.

Drone footage in Powick showed the extent of flooding there with Powick Old Bridge completely submerged.

The Met Office forecast for Monday is a dry and sunny day with temperatures reaching a high of 9C. 

Rain is set to return on Tuesday afternoon and the forecast shows it will continue to rain throughout Wednesday and Thursday.

There are not expected to be heavy showers but light rain throughout this period.

The early forecast for Friday is a dry day with some drizzle at times.
