A BUSY city centre car park has closed this morning.

King Street car park, off Sidbury, has closed so the tree near the car park entrance can be removed safely.

The tree is afflicted by the ash dieback fungus and needs to be removed to avoid the danger of its branches falling.

While the car park is closed, some maintenance work on other trees will also take place.

This will create more space for the City Council's cleaning vehicles to clean the car park thoroughly.

A spokesperson for Worcester City Council said: "King Street car park is closed today until 1pm for essential work to remove a diseased tree at the entrance."

The City Council will work with the Worcester Environmental Group to re-use the timber from the tree as part of a play area project.
