An Indian restaurant in Birmingham has been awarded Two Michelin Stars at the 2024 awards ceremony.
Opheem is around an hour’s drive from Worcester and is said to take “a creative approach”.
The restaurant is among six that have received Two Michelin Stars for the first time – here’s what the Michelin Star guide said about Opheem.
What did the Michelin Star guide say about Opheem?
Opheem is Birmingham’s first ever Two Michelin Star restaurant and it’s been praised in the guide.
It said: “The other Indian restaurant breaking new ground is the wonderful Opheem, which becomes Birmingham’s first-ever Two Michelin Star restaurant.
“Described as ‘progressive Indian cuisine’ by Chef-Owner Aktar Islam, it serves highly original dishes that keep Indian cooking at their core but have a more modern slant than at Gymkhana.
“Each creation demonstrates sophistication and depth of flavour, while showcasing the fabulous culinary knowledge that goes into such complementary flavour and texture combinations.”
Gymkhana in London and Opheem are the first Indian restaurants to be awarded Two Michelin Stars in the UK - they were both named in the 2024 guide.

Opheem has received a rating of 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor from 840 reviews.
One reviewer said: “The meal exceeded all of our expectations. The whole evening felt like an experience and flowed so well. 3.5 hours flew!
“The food was presented incredibly and tasted even better. With the snacks and treats in the bar either side of the 10 course taster we actually had 20 courses.
“Highly recommend. We've tried many taster menus and Ynyshir was the best one we'd ever had, but i think this equalled it”.

Another said: “A really amazing experience - all of the service was welcoming and professional.
“The food was fantastic, my personal favourite being the vegetable korma and potato dish with multiple textures and flavours of potatoes. I also had a lychee martini, this was honestly one of the nicest cocktails I've ever had.
“In addition, the wine choice was great, we opted for a bottle of pinot noir from the champagne region and it was perfect with the menu. I cannot recommend highly enough for an amazing experience and even more amazing food.”
