Industrial action is set to impact train services this week.

Great Western Railway (GWR) has warned that industrial action by members of the train drivers’ union, Aslef, will affect services this coming Sunday, February 4, and Monday, February 5.

Many parts of the GWR network are predicted to have no train services, with reduced timetables where trains are able to operate.

Aslef's action is part of a rolling programme of strikes that is also affecting other train operators this week.

GWR recommends that passengers should travel on alternative days due to the adjusted timetable and many areas experiencing no service.

Trains that are operational will only be operating for a limited period during the day and are expected to be busier than usual, as GWR will not be able to offer the normal service frequency.

Bus replacement services will also not be available.

With other train operators also affected by the strike action, onward travel could potentially be affected.

Some changes, including planned cancellations, are also expected to affect the first services on Tuesday, February 6, which customers are advised to check before travelling.

Limited disruption will continue for the rest of the week, which could result in short-notice alterations and cancellations.

Those travelling up to Saturday, February 3, can expect GWR to operate a near-normal level of service.

However, some limited short-notice changes and cancellations are anticipated.

Customers are advised to check both outward and return journeys before travelling.

For the latest information on train services, passengers are urged to check www.gwr.com/strike which has updated online journey planners.

Customers who have purchased tickets but decide not to travel due to the disruptions can claim a full refund or amend their ticket.

Passengers who endure delays may be entitled to Delay Repay compensation if they are delayed by 15 minutes or more.

To assist customers further, tickets for the strike days are valid for travel on alternative days on GWR services.

Specifically, tickets for Tuesday, January 30, to Monday, February 5, can be used to travel from Monday, January 29, up to and including Wednesday, February 7.
