ANOTHER update has been released over the proposed new Costco which could be opening soon in Gloucestershire just off the M5.

Costco Wholesale has officially submitted a planning application to open a warehouse and petrol station at the former Interbrew site off Eastern Road in Gloucester.

The scheme was submitted to Gloucester City Council last Thursday (January 11).

The proposed site is on a brownfield site that has been derelict and empty since 2017 near the Railway Triangle, and if approved, it will neighbour Morrisons.

It is estimated the 13,109m2 warehouse would create 250 new full-time jobs.

Plans include creating around 630 parking spaces including 20 spaces for disabled badge holders and a number of EV charging points plus 20 cycle spaces.

Proposed floor plans for the warehouse show designated spaces for different areas including a bakery, a sushi area, deli and rotisserie.

In addition, there would be space for an employee lounge, as well as a customer hearing centre, a tyre fitting area and a kitchen for its restaurant.

Meanwhile, the petrol station would have space for eighteen filling spaces for drivers.

The warehouse store would be open from 10am to 8.30pm on weekdays, from 9.30am to 8.30pm on Saturday’s, and from 11am to 5pm on Sunday’s.

Meanwhile, according to the application, one member of the public during the consultation suggested that the new Costco should be located in Stonehouse.

The statement reads: “I welcome Costco in Gloucester area, would have been nice for it to be in Stonehouse, but don’t mind the proposed site as I am moving away from Bristol.

“Having a local Costco helps along with the fuel station, brings employment, increases the footfall of people around the area and benefits local businesses around the area too.

“I am looking forward to visiting Costco Gloucester soon.”

A planning document reads: “The proposed new warehouse will occupy and regenerate an
area of land that is currently vacant and visually unappealing.

“The building incorporates inclusive design and fully considers the needs of people arriving at the warehouse to work and to purchase wholesale goods.

“The associated highways, footpath and cycleway reconfiguration will ensure a smooth flow of traffic into and around the site.

“The considered landscape will soften the edges to the neighbouring roadways and developments, and the existing offsite trees will be retained and respected.

“The warehouse is designed to be fully accessible and to respect the needs of all.”

Costco, which has 29 sites across the UK, first announced its intention to come to Gloucestershire in November 2022

They previously launched a public consultation about its proposed Gloucester store in November last year.
