DONATIONS have come in for a fundraiser set up in memory of a popular city landlord with thousands of pounds raised in 24 hours.
Alex Pope, the landlord of the Paul Pry, died at the age of 39 the pub announced on Sunday (January 13).
Now, family, friends and customers have been donating to a GoFundMe page which has raised £9,000 so far.
Plans for the donations include helping to pay for Mr Pope's funeral and the "send off he deserves".
A statement from the team at the Paul Pry said they are “beyond devastated and broken” but “comforted knowing how loved he is and how much support we have around us”.
The fundraiser was launched on Monday night, (January 15), and by Tuesday lunchtime it had already raised £9,000.
Family friend Felicity Regent said everybody was "blown away" by the support and the generosity of people in wanting to give something showed how popular he was.
"He was a massive part of the community in Worcester," Mrs Regent said.
"We set the fundraiser up to help with funeral costs and also with the ongoing costs of Alex’s legacy - The Paul Pry.
"The pub remains closed at the moment. There are bills to be paid, staff to be paid, the money will help give them space to make decisions.
"It's a family-run pub, Alex was behind the bar and cooking the Sunday roasts. There is a lot of uncertainty with the pub."
The GoFundMe page reads: "Many of you have sent wonderful kind words of love and such fond memories and stories, which have been so kindly received by family and friends.
"His impact is immeasurable and he created something truly amazing.
"Any donations, no matter how small, will help the family pay for the send-off he so deserves."
