HUNDREDS of homes in Worcestershire were without power due to a fallen tree.
More than 700 residents in the WR5 postcode, including Kempsey, had experienced a nine-hour power cut after National Grid experienced issues with its power lines.
Initially, the business said a fault in the high-voltage lines had caused the outage and supplies would be back on at 10pm on January 2.
But they later discovered a tree had fallen on the lines, which then meant it took longer than expected to fix the problem.
A spokesperson for National Grid said: "There was initially a fault that affected the high voltage overhead network in the area.
"Our engineers attended and carried out repairs and were able to restore supplies at 10pm.
"Unfortunately they then discovered that a tree had blown over onto our overhead network.
"Work was carried out to remove this and supplies to the remaining customers were then restored at 00:16 (January 3).
"Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.
"Our teams were working as quickly as possible in the adverse conditions to get supplies restored to everyone."
