Recent house price data has revealed that the most expensive UK high street homes are in a Cotswold village.

According to a decade-long study by ukphonebook.com, Broadway holds the crown for housing the most costly high street homes, with an average property sale price of £868,495.

This region, known for its distinctive terraced cottages and detached abodes, has an average property price over £100,000 more than other high streets, with Much Hadham in Hertfordshire taking the runner-up spot ahead of Ingatestone in Essex, which had the third highest average price.

The data was analysed by pulling the prices of sales from all properties from any street named 'High Street'.

The CEO of Propertymark, Nathan Emerson, said: "We know that the most expensive homes in England are in the south, so it is expected that this would follow suit when reporting on various other categories or credentials of properties."

Within the 2,376 high Streets included in the data, flats dominated the market with 35.4 per cent of sales.

Terrace properties accounted for 30.2 per cent followed by detached homes that made up 19.4 per cent, and finally semi-detached properties at 14.9 per cent.

The least sold properties were new builds which accounted for just eight per cent of sales, the majority of which are flats.

Detached homes were the priciest with an average price grazing just under £500,000, compared to terrace homes which averaged at a starkly lower £252,000.

Mr Emerson added: "With populations growing, especially in the south, flats are more common and more affordable when looking to step onto the property ladder.

"It is unsurprising that newly built homes make up little of the total number of homes for sale given that UK Government is lacking in building an adequate provision for an ever-growing population.

"As well as this, new build homes are also being built on available land which is often slightly outside of towns and in turn, high streets."

As a contrast to the Cotswold's high street, Sunderland hosts the UK's most affordable high street homes with an average price of only £52k, over £800,000 less than Broadway.
