A Worcester tanning salon is set to reopen just a couple of months after a car crashed through its window.
Staff and customers at Heatwave in Canada Way, Lower Wick, had a miracle escape in September after a car drove through the front of the shop.
The driver, a woman in her 70s, had to be freed by firefighters while the shop’s owners were left to pick up the pieces having finished a refurbishment only days earlier.
After much hard work and having dealt with “a lot of insurance stuff,” Heatwave is ready to open its doors once again.
The shop will reopen on Monday, January 8 and owner Nicole LePoidevin is ready to celebrate.
“We can’t wait,” she said. “It was such a freak accident. We’d just finished the refurb and were really happy with how it looked - for that to happen, we were gutted.
“Now we’re finally ready to reopen and it looks even better - it’s really exciting.
“Our online bookings are open now so customers can book for the week. We’ll have giveaways and prizes for customers throughout the week and maybe even some bubbles on arrival.
“A lot of people have been stopping us in the most random of places to ask when we’re opening again, so it’s good that day is finally here.”
Nicole was keen to praise local businesses that have helped get the shop ready to reopen.
These include Heatwave’s neighbour Total Interiors Worcester, which carried out the latest refurbishment, and Worcester Trade Frames, which was able to quickly replace the shop window.
“The local businesses who have helped, we can’t praise them highly enough,” said Nicole. “The shop looks even better now.”
After the crash, a spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Officers promptly arrived to find a female had accidentally driven her vehicle into the front window of a tanning salon.
"The lady didn’t receive any injuries other than shock and the car has minor damage."
A fire service spokesman added: "A woman in her 70s was unable to get out of the vehicle due to debris.
“The crew freed the woman who was left in the care of the ambulance service.
“They made the car and the building safe before leaving the incident."
