A STRIKER is celebrating a new addition to the team as he welcomed the arrival of his daughter while a postman also had the perfect New Year delivery.
Zaqib Hussain, 24, and his partner Leila Johnson celebrated the arrival of their daughter, Kalilah Ayah Hussain at Worcestershire Royal Hospital on New Year's Day.
Weighing in at 5lbs 13oz, Little Kalilah was born at 12.18pm. She had not been expected until January 26 so arrived well ahead of her due date.
Proud dad Mr Hussain of Ronkswood, Worcester, who is a striker for Worcester Raiders, said: "It's unbelievable. It's a shock. She has come early. I never thought she would be here on New Year's Day."
Mum's waters broke at 1.30am that morning.
Mr Hussain said: "I'm proud of Leila. She will be a great mum and I'm very proud of how she dealt with it all and we can't wait to spend the rest of our lives with Kalilah."
Louisa Baldwin, 33, and her husband Alex Baldwin, 34, from the Marlpool estate in Kidderminster welcomed their daughter, Pippa Baldwin, at 9.22am on New Year's Day.
Pippa, born with an impressive amount of thick dark hair, is their second child. Their first, Maxwell, now three years old was born on Christmas Eve 2020 so they are used to festive surprises.
Mrs Baldwin gave birth to 8lb and 14oz Pippa in the birthing pool at the Royal's Meadow Suite, a natural birth with gas and air which was 'just as she wanted it'.
Mrs Baldwin works as an estate agent and Mr Baldwin as a postman and he said the arrival of little Pippa was 'the perfect New Year delivery'.
"I'm very proud and very happy. She was a couple of days late but we are thrilled that she has arrived after Christmas and not on Maxwell's birthday," said Mrs Baldwin.
Mr Baldwin said: "I'm just getting ready for the sleepless nights again."
Kim Harris, 34, of Redditch welcomed her fourth child, weighing 7lbs 1oz at 6.03am on New Year's Day.
She said she and the baby's dad, Andrew Hill, were very happy. They have yet to name their baby girl.
Charlie Wood arrived at 12.17am on New Year's Day, the first child of Hannah Terry, 33, and Matthew Wood, 32, of Aggborough, Kidderminster.
Miss Terry said: "I'm so tired, overwhelmed but really happy."
Dad Matthew agreed it was overwhelming. "It's a lot to take in in a short space of time. It still doesn't feel real," he said.
Little Charlie weighed 6lbs and 14oz and was not due to arrive until January 10 but it seems he was determined to arrive early to give mum and dad their most memorable New Year.
