THERE was a police presence outside a pub on New Year's Day after a man suffered life-threatening injuries. 

A man has been arrested for attempted murder after a victim suffered the injuries outside the Beauchamp Arms, Worcester Road on New Year's Eve, (December 31).

West Mercia Police said officers were called to reports of an incident outside the premises at 10.15pm and on arrival found a man, aged in his 60s, with life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A 52-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody as enquiries continue.

The force described it as a serious assault.

A police officer was stood outside with a police car parked up outside Malvern Link Fish Bar next door to the pub. 

A blue police tent was on the pavement which was closed to pedestrians.

At about 12.30pm the officer was joined by another who took down the tent and police cordon before leaving the scene. 

An eyewitness said he saw the victim receiving medical assistance outside the pub before being taken away by an ambulance. 

The eyewitness said: "Emergency services came at around 9pm last night (New Year's Eve, Sunday December 21)."

Another eyewitness said three ambulances and four police cars were called to Malvern Link in the early evening on New Year's Eve and remained there all night.

A woman at the Beauchamp Arms did not wish to comment but was keen to stress nothing happened inside the pub, the incident happened outside.

In a police statement Detective Chief Inspector Tony Garner, said: “I understand incidents of this nature can be alarming, but I would like to reassure the local community that there is no wider risk to the public.

“We currently have one man in custody and we are not looking anyone else in connection with this incident.

“Officers will be in the area for the next couple of days whilst we carry out enquiries to form part of our investigation.”
