A housing association has donated £1,000 to Worcester Food Bank to help provide parcels to struggling families in the area over Christmas.

Platform Housing Group's contribution is part of the group's annual Community Kindness Campaign.

Through this, the housing association is due to allot £60,000 in support to various community food banks, charities, and specialist organisations.

Worcester Food Bank offers emergency assistance all year round, supplying crisis food parcels and weekly food supplies to those in need.

The donation from Platform will ensure its support continues over the festive season.

Chair of group’s board, John Weguelin, said: "Worcester Foodbank and the organisations we are helping, as part of our annual Christmas Kindness Campaign, provide essential support services to customers in the heart of our local communities.

"When the cost of living continues to be a daily challenge for many, it’s great that Platform can help spread a little festive, food parcel, cheer to families and children who are struggling this Christmas."

Ruth Allsopp, operations coordinator at the foodbank said: "We have seen demand for our services increase by 40% this year at Worcester Foodbank and without donations from organisations like Platform Housing Group, we wouldn't be able to support everyone who needs us.

"We are very grateful for their support."
