A SCHOOL had to go into a lockdown after intruders broke into the grounds and threatened staff.

Pupils and teachers were forced to lock their classrooms and stay put after intruders gained entry into Christopher Whitehead Language College during the afternoon.

The emergency procedure was implemented after two teenagers from neighbouring schools entered the grounds, said Neil Morris, headteacher.

Police were called to the Bromwich Road school to remove the intruders.

Mr Morris said the pair intended to cause disruption and it is unlikely that they will visit the grounds again thanks to police involvement and conversations with fellow headteachers.

No weapons were brought onto the premises and Mr Morris has assured parents that the two were deemed as 'low risk'.

"I want to further reassure parents and carers following yesterday's lockdown and dispel false rumours that have circulated," said Mr Morris.

"The intruders were two teenagers from nearby schools. They didn't carry any weapons and were deemed 'low risk'.

"They were here to cause disruption, and with police involvement and liaison with fellow headteachers, are very unlikely to visit again."

He thanked his parents for their support during the situation.

When Christopher Whitehead Language College went into lockdown, students had to stay in their classrooms or head to the nearest room.

Doors are locked from the inside so no intruder can enter, and they remain locked until everyone receives an all-clear message.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "At around 2.15pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday, December 7), we were called to the Christopher Whitehead Language College & Sixth Form on Bromwich Road in Worcester after reports of two non-students who had entered the premises and threatened a member of staff.

"Officers attended and removed the two people from the college grounds. No weapons were involved."

Mr Morris moved to reassure the community that the lockdown procedures were calm and orderly - a little like a fire drill.

The incident took place shortly after the school's second registration at 1.50pm yesterday (Thursday).
