An eye clinic has received plaudits for its service to patients struggling with their sight.

Newmedica Worcester, an independent eye clinic, employs a joined-up approach that connects all aspects of eyecare, from opticians to consultants, resulting in shorter waiting times and fewer patient delays.

The clinic, located at the Berkeley Business Park, provides services for both NHS and private patients, which helps alleviate pressure on busy waiting lists.

Norma Proctor, 73, a former paediatrics worker who was trained at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, recently underwent two cataract operations at the Newmedica.

Mrs Proctor explained that her experience of eyecare was significantly improved by the close links between her optician daughter Justine, and Newmedica.

She said: "The whole experience has been amazing.

"There was nothing I could fault.

"We really are very lucky in Worcestershire to have such talented professionals working in a system that is designed to help the patient."

Norma's daughter Justine, who has been a practicing optometrist for over two decades, said: "It’s important that patients feel at ease.

"I’m pleased to say that here in Worcestershire, with Newmedica, we have a very professional system that gives confidence to the patient while also helping them to be relaxed in what can be a stressful situation."

Tarun Sharma, a consultant ophthalmologist who leads the clinic, said: "Every day we have communication with optometrists, which then means that we have the very latest and accurate information in front of us when we need it.

“Optometrists are often with patients for their life, so they want the very best for them, and it’s great that the quality of service is so high that optometrists are happy to send members of their family to us, as was the case with Justine and her mother.

“If they have every confidence in the clinics, that speaks volumes about what we’re doing here in Worcestershire. It’s about trust. Every step of the way we want everyone to be giving their very best.”
