FLOODING continues around Worcestershire as several flood alerts remain active including the river Severn at Worcester.

River Severn levels remain high in Worcester but are falling slowly at the Saxons Lode river gauge in Naunton, near Upton-upon-Severn, following recent rainfall.

The Environment Agency warns that flooding continues in the area.

It said: "We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent the river from Highley to Tewkesbury.

"Locations affected are Stourport, Holt Fleet, Worcester, Kempsey, Severn Stoke, Upton upon Severn, South Quay, Diglis Parade and Hylton Road towpath.

"Flooded drains may affect the racecourse and Worcester County cricket ground."

Saxons Lode peaked at 4.56m yesterday (Wednesday), Bewdley peaked at 2.79m on Tuesday and Worcester peaked at 4.00m, Diglis at 3.78m and Kempsey Yacht Club at 5.89m on yesterday.

However, further heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours and the Environment Agency expects river levels to fall and then rise again as a result of the rainfall.

It continued: "We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

The Environment Agency plans to send a further update at 10am tomorrow (Friday) or as the situation changes.

There are also flood alerts on the river Avon while at Kempsey the flood alleviation scheme is now operating.

The Environment Agency expects flooding to affect low lying land and Squires walk in the area of the Hatfield Brook in Kempsey.

Further down the river Severn at Severn Ham, Tewkesbury there is a red flood warning - meaning flooding is expected.

Weather in Worcester this weekend

The Met Office said Friday will mostly be cloudy with showers, however, they may be merging into longer spells of heavy rain at times.

Fortunately, there will possibly be a few sunnier intervals.

The Met Office predicts it will be "milder than of late but rather windy at times" with the maximum temperature expected to be 8C.

The weekend through to Monday is expected to be mild and windy with periods of heavy rain interspersed with drier and clearer skies and more showery spells.

There is the possibility of gales at times.

It will be turning somewhat less mild on Monday with sunny spells, according to the Met Office.
